June is very busy at the Tiny Green Cottage! Roses are in bloom, vegetables need to be harvested, and weeding needs to be done.

Herb Garden-June 2009


Technically, we have two herb gardens; culinary and medicinal- but I tend to think of them as a whole. The Culinary bed is by far more established and utilized, while the Medicinal side is experimental and growing in random patches. Our ultimate goal is to have two successful beds which fill their spaces to a maximum with an array of colourful and useful herbs. One of the many things we strive for in our garden is abundance and utility.

Territorial Seed has already mailed out their Winter Harvest seed catalog, which we received yesterday. A gentle reminder to start planning or planting your Winter crops before it is too late. This year, we discovered we planted our Swiss Chard and Kale later than we should have; resulting in miniature Kale and a Chard plant which bolted before anything useable could have been culled. Let that be a lesson to us!
